Dubuque, Iowa, is home to the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, a beautiful nature reserve founded in 1975. Jackson “Mac” Marshall, a lifelong Dubuque resident known for his work as an Army intelligence officer in World War I, donated 51 acres of land to the city under the condition that it would always be used as a park. They agreed, and Marshall Park was born. Now, five decades later, Adams Architectural Millwork has become part of the arboretum’s rich history.
Recently, we had the opportunity to restore two door slabs for the Japanese Garden at the Dubuque Arboretum. These two door slabs were initially installed in 2003 when the attraction first opened. Since then, they were subjected to heavy wear and tear from the elements. To ensure the doors could be brought back to their former glory, we sanded them down until the original finish and stain were removed. From there, we filled any cracks and reapplied stain and finish to make these door slabs look brand new!
