Wyatt Earp House, Pella, Iowa
The Wyatt Earp House in Pella, Iowa, is the childhood home of notorious lawman, gunslinger, and gambler Wyatt Earp. Earp was born in Monmouth, Illinois, before relocating to Pella, Iowa, with his parents and seven siblings. In a bottom-floor apartment in this building, Wyatt spent his early childhood watching his father, Nicholas, serve as the city marshal before eventually relocating to Tombstone, Arizona. In 2020, Adams Architectural Millwork received the opportunity to assist in renovating this landmark building by providing historically accurate double-hung windows before its grand reopening in 2021.
With the intent to reopen as a historical experience, the Pella Historical Society wanted to renovate the original building—an 18th-century Dutch-style building on the National Register of Historic Places—named Van Spanckeren Row House to keep it as accurate as possible while upgrading the visual quality of the experience. Our windows sought to keep this vision alive by replicating the windows in the same style while providing sashes free of wear and tear from years of exposure.
